Boarding & Training

OUR SERVICES

Most of the foundation and basic training work is done at the training center's location. However,  we fully appreciate the critical need to take training to the next level; a key aspect of that is offsite training to help handlers and dogs work together in real-world situations once foundation behaviors are understood and reproducible.

We have clients from all over the US, even as far away as New England, who come for training, boarding, and board & train services. Our clients include pet dog owners, service dog handlers, professional K-9 handlers, and SAR K-9 teams.

Hundeskool offerS the following services:

Obedience Training
Detection Training
Board and Train Services
Boarding (for our clients)
Training for therapy dog handlers (certification offered through an independent certifying official)
AKC Training & Evaluations (CGC, CGCA, CGC Urban, Trick Dog)

Additional specialty training is offered through our partners:
Accelerant Detection Dog Training (Roveldeco Roger Means)
Tracking and Personal Protection (World Class Canine Stefan Nadzam)

BOARD & TRAIN            PRIVATE SESSIONS          BOARDING          SCENTWORK SESSIONS             PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Board & Train $600 per week

Your dog will stay with us for 1-4 weeks depending on their training. Basic obedience will be taught throughout the duration of the training. At the completion of the training we will go over every aspect of the training with the owner to ensure commands, praise/reward and corrections are given correctly and appropriately reinforced at home. Before signing up for our board & train we want our our owners to understand their part in the process and commitment. To sign up for our B&T we do require at least one private sessions with the owner prior to a B&T. At the completion of the two session the owner can decided if our training method is something they think they can maintain. A $400 non-refundable deposit is required to get on our schedule.
The success of training strongly depends on three factors:
owner’s willingness to heed the advice of the trainer (the professional)
proper reinforcement at home
maintaining and an open line of communication with the trainer
We require one private session ($70) PRIOR to any BNT and recommend a session during each week of BNT (included in the BNT).
In the transition phase daily maintenance and reinforcing is a must. By not following trainer’s advice, the canine most likely will revert back to its old routine.

Private Sessions $70 / Off-Site Sessions $80

Our first visit will be to evaluate the dog and its surrounding appropriately. We will discuss some of the problems you may have with your dog and how they could be solved, we will look at potential problem areas and will try to explain why and how they possibly were created.
We then design a custom training plan for you and your dog with realistic goals. Only if you are willing to invest time and energy and to stay positive throughout training, the one-on-one sessions will be successful. Clear, consistent commands will ensure your dog has a clear understanding what's expected of him or her.

Obedience training for your dog will not relinquish the owners responsibility to maintain and upkeep the training. Just like a vehicle that needs engine tuning, oil changes, new tires etc., your dog also requires consistent interaction and training. Realistic goals for you and your dog are common sense.

If you are interested in getting the training alongside your dog and you are willing and committing to daily exercises with your dog, the one-on-one sessions might be preferred over the board and train. Success will greatly depend on the owner's willingness to follow the suggestions of the trainer and his or hers ability to stay consistent and committed through out.
Our first private 60 min session is $70 and is held here at our location in Inman. We then offer a personalized training program:
- 4 session (6 weeks to complete) $260 ; sessions are usually scheduled on the same day and time over six weeks.

Each session will build upon the previous one, so doing the assigned homework/practice between each session is important to not waste time. We also offer off-site training session in real life setting such as downtown Inman, Landrum, stores, etc. for an additional fee.

House calls are available within a reasonable distance starting at $100.

Boarding $35/per day

Our boarding clients are usually former board & train or our obedience clients. We treat your dog as one of our own, play ball and hang out together.
All dogs get several hour long turn outs in the field with an 8' pool,  shade and plenty of toys.
We do not charge extra for any playtime nor for any medication that needs to be administered, all we ask is for the owner to provide the food in a sealed container like a Rubbermaid box.
We have 24hr video surveillance and always keep a close eye on our guests and keep the owner updated with videos and pictures.

RATES:
Our rates are $35 /per day.
Sunday drop-off and pick-up is available for a fee of $15 per dog.

Scentwork Sessions

Scentwork sessions can prepare you and your dog for the sport of Nosework or simply teach you a new and fun activity to do with your dog.  In Nosework your  K9 (your dog) will learn to hunt and recognize 3 odors (birch, anise & clove). Although a final indication/response is not required, we do suggest it for the competition sport. We not only will teach you and your dog to be successful in this new and exciting sport but we also will teach the handler about scent movement and how to set up your dog for success. First step in the Nosework training will be to successfully pass the ORT (Odor Recognition Test). We then will build from there to become efficient in all 4 areas (interior, exterior, vehicles and containers).
If you are interested in perusing NACSW or AKC Nosework competitively we highly recommend Allison Andrews with Foothills Canine Academy.
Even if you don't want to compete, scentwork is a fantastic activity to keep your dog's mind busy and entertained.  Scentwork is for any dog and their owner, regardless of age or ability.

Trick Dog session $60 (45min)

Trick training is becoming increasingly popular and a fun activity to do for you and your dog.  No dog is too old to learn new tricks.
It is also an AKC title!
Trick dog training has quite some history all the way back to the  1920’s with the movie dog, Rin Tin Tin. In 1943, came the character of Lassie. Rudd Weatherwax, wrote a trick dog training manual in the 1940’s. The manual was based on positive reinforcement and food rewards for correct behaviors, a training method that was uncommon at the time.
Why do tricks? Trick training is FUN and it's a great way to keep a busy mind challenged. Dogs enjoy learning tricks and earning reinforcers during training. These reinforcers may be a food reward, a toy or a very happy, excited owner who is praising the dog.   It also strengthens the relationship between dog and owner.
